Joining several other lab members, ChansLab PhD students Mollie Chapman and Paige Olmsted have been invited to join the Liu Scholar program of the Liu Institute for Global Issues. This program brings over 150 PhD students from across the campus together for unique learning opportunities related to three central cross-disciplinary themes: sustainability, security, and justice.

Kai and Paige launch initiative at AAAS meeting in Boston

This weekend (Feb 14-18, 2013) a wide range of academics and media are gathering in Boston for the American Academy for the Advancement of Science annual general meeting. Kai and Paige organized a symposium called Getting to Global Ecological Sustainability that included leading scholars Jane Lubchenco, Jonathan Foley, David Wilcove, Steven Katona, and Simon Levin. Kai’s presentation introduced a new initiative, to learn more about it see their post on the CHANS lab blog.

Kai selected as a 2013 Leopold Leadership Fellow

Kai was one of 20 mid-career academics from Canada, Mexico, and USA selected as an Aldo Leopold Leadership Fellow. http://leopoldleadership.stanford.edu/

The program “provides outstanding academic environmental researchers with skills and approaches for communicating and working with partners in NGOs, business, government and communities to integrate science into decision‐making”. Funded by the Packard and Hewlett Foundations, housed at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment.
